The competition for the “Singles Champion Trophy” was newly inaugurated in 2010 and is held yearly within the Club and will be contested by club members in July.
This year the rain threatened but kept it’s distance for the club’s annual Individual Super Mêlée Competition held on Monday 13th. July.
A good turnout of 16 members (the organiser’s prime number!) played a total of five matches as ‘pairs’ with each player changing partners after every game. The games were limited to a maximum of 7 points or 20 minutes which ever came first to ensure the scores represented a good cross section throughout.
After a couple of hours of frenzied activity, the organiser (Peter – of course) decided to analyse the scoresheet over a pint at the bar. No-one had won all five of their games, but Andrew, having not lost any either with 4 wins and a draw, took the title of the club’s Individual Champion 2015. Congratulations to Andrew who was presented with the Annual Singles Champion Trophy by the chairman, together with another smaller replica Individual Champion 2015 trophy to collect dust on his mantelpiece . Simon and Malcolm shared runners-up spot, with Sue Will and Richard II not far behind.
Thanks go to Peter for running the event which went extremely smoothly and was enjoyed by all.
We look forward now to the Club Members Triples Competition which is to be held on Monday 27th July at 7.15 pm.
