'Air Hostess P.C.' v 'Doncaster P.C.' The warm summer-like Saturday of 17th April, saw the ‘Air Hostess’ playing hosts to the Doncaster Pétanque Club in a mélée competition for the “Leslie Nunn Trophy”. Under cloudless blue skies, 12 members from each club took to the newly laid pistes at Tollerton. The format of “mélée-ing” the triples players within the each club for every game brought about some interesting and evenly contested play throughout the day . The first round play was long extended. The Doncaster’s triples teams of Nigel, Helen & Jill and also of Moreen, Steve & Sue both won their games, with host team of David, Andrew & Julie pulling one game back.
After suitable sustenance the Yorkshire team pulled ahead in round 3, winning 3 of the 4 games. Pressure now on the home side in the final round, the Air Hostess teams responded reversing the previous round’s result.
A thrilling contest had ended with both clubs winning 8 matches. Chairman Peter was called upon to delve into the complex scoresheet to reveal that the trophy goes back up the A614 to Doncaster who accumulated the greater number of points scored. Player of the tournament was Steve from the Doncaster team who was the only player on the day to win all his games – well done Steve! Helen and Sue took 2nd & 3rd places in the individual ratings - a clean sweep for the visitors. The highest placed home team players were Malcolm and Chris in 4th. & 5th. positions.
The club wishes to thank all those involved, especially Sue Nunn for the organisation and Peter for ensuring the smooth running of a great day’s pétanque. We all look forward to a return match in the not too distant future. Thanks also to Steve and his pub staff for providing food and drink throughout the day.

This left the other home team of Will, Malcolm & Richard in a tussle with Brian, Ray & Sandra which appeared to be never ending. The home team eventually emerged from behind to take the game 13-11. So “égalité” after round one. This seemed to set a precedence for the rest of the morning as the games played in round two were just as closely contested resulting in two wins each, Nigel, Pat & Steve and Ray, Sue & Sue for Doncaster with Malc, Julie & Peter assisted by Chris, David & Mike for Air Hostess. Still “all square” at 4~4 ! With the sun beating down, the lounge bar then provided relaxation along with lunches and refreshments.
