Presentation Evening - 2008

The Presentation Evening for the Thursday Fours Pétanque League 2008 was held at the Red Lion Kegworth on Thursday 11th. December 2008.

It was a great night for the Air Hostess Pétanque Club whose members and supporters accounted for well over 50% of the total turnout. The village of Tollerton had come to celebrate their own Air Hostess 6 team's successful season having clinched the Division 2 Champions slot in great style.pn_2008 The team has been established less than 3 years and completed this season winning twelve and losing only one of their fixtures during 2008, truly a great achievement.

Their captain, Richard Swann, proudly accepted the Champions trophy presented by the league organiser Mike Webb, amidst loud cheering and applause emanating from the Tollerton crowd.

Our club also collected some more silverware with Air Hostess 5 taking the Knockout Cup Runners-up trophy for the third time in 4 years, Peter Johnson-Marshall and Malcolm Stacey collecting the Cup and individual trophies for their team. (see K.O.Cup section for match report).

The Plough at Thorpe  Acre were the Knockout Cup winners whilst Nutbrook 1 were Division One champions.

Thanks go to Mike Webb for organising and running the event, also to the Red Lion for hosting an enjoyable friendly evening for the teams of the Thursday League.

EASTER MONDAY PÉTANQUE TRIPLES COMPETITION

24th March 2008

The Air Hostess Pétanque Club welcomed 16 teams from as far afield as Leeds to this annual competition. The pistes and surrounds looked good with Mark's new table & parasol combinations.

Despite the cold weather with the odd snow flurry, play was to the usual high standard with a league system giving everyone 5 games.

em102All the games were played in a good spirit and, with refreshments freely available from the bar, the competition was a perfect opener to the new season.

The team of Osman, Rob and Peter, playing on home soil, emerged as clear winners with 5 wins out of 5, taking home individual trophies, cash and fine wine. They also get the competition shield to keep for a year.

The runners-up spot was more closely contested with three teams having 4 wins each. Points difference favoured the "APD" team - Andy Pat & Dave, who narrowly edged another home team, namely "Where's Den",  into 3rd place. Kevin's "Moustachians" team brought up the rear with a win tally of absolute zero, having been only one point away from avoiding this fate in the very first game.  They each went home with a chocolate Easter egg and the resolve to do some more practice before next year!

em103Our appreciation is shown  to all those who prepared the pistes to an excellent standard following the winter period, also to Malcolm for the trophies and redesigned competition shield which ensures continuation of the event for at least a couple of decades. Thanks must go to Charlotte and the staff of the hostelry for keeping everyone supplied with food and drink over a long cold but enjoyable day.

em104            Above all thanks to Peter for his huge input in organising the whole event and we look forward to welcoming everyone back again next Easter if not before.

Anyone wanting to have a casual game is very welcome to come to our club evenings on Mondays from 7.30pm or just come along to the pub and use the club boules which are kept behind the bar.
